As discussed in my last blog WordPress 5.9 has finally arrived. This is a major release of WordPress and is named “Joséphine” in honour of acclaimed international jazz singer Joséphine Baker. From the wordPress.org website:

As a lifelong civil rights campaigner, Joséphine Baker believed that all people could live in harmony together, just as different instruments in a jazz band blend together to make a whole piece. Turn on a playlist from your favorite music service and enjoy her famous renditions of “You are the greatest love”, “Sans Amour”, and “Love is a Dreamer” as you discover all the features of this brand-new WordPress release.

WordPress 5.9 includes the following:

  • Full site editing – making it easier to edit your site without writing code.
  • New site-wide blocks – 10 new blocks made for full site editing
  • Add Site-Wide Styles – the ability to add new styles to be applied across the entire site.
  • A New Way to Add Navigation Menus – Menu’s are now called Navigation Menus. You can use the new Navigation Menu block in the site editor to change your navigation menus links, colours, spacing, alignment and more.
  • New default theme twenty-twenty-two.
  • Block improvements
  • and lots more…..

WP Beginner has a great article here about some of these changes.
